To support the regional sales of their 529 College Savings plans, OppenheimerFunds hired Sullivan to create a unique and compelling presentation to be used by financial advisors at small, organized events and individual pitches. Early on, we arrived at the idea that saving for college can be a complicated journey, not unlike the quintessential roadtrip parents often make when taking their kids to campus for the start of the school year. We quickly expanded that metaphor to touch on all the key beats of the story and the reasons to invest, and I sketched ideas for illustrations to go on each slide, playing off the visual vernacular of a cross-country roadtrip: signage, luggage, maps, and more. We then commissioned an illustrator with a classic Americana style—reminiscent of vintage postcards—to bring my sketches into full, living color.
